Back in 1912, the largest, beautiful liner Titanic set off from Great Britain to America on its first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. A journey that became his last. Director James Cameron, who has been making this film for many years, managed to turn this dramatic, terrible event into a film that became not only dramatic, but also romantic, which made this film a cult.
Making a movie
Cameron approached the creation of the film very scrupulously. First, he descended to the wreckage of the real Titanic – with the help of the Russian research vessel Akademik Mstislav Keldysh and the Mir-1 and Mir-2 bathyscaphes; at the same time he built a large-scale copy of the destroyed ship’s hull, and also created (at his studio “Digital Domain”) an animated video about the disaster. All this cost 20th Century Fox $ 3 million, but allowed the film company to be imbued with the grandeur of the idea.
Cameron turned out to be right in the end – “Titanic” headed the American box office for fifteen weeks, the number of cinemas that showed it grew during this time from 2.67 thousand to 3.23 thousand, and the total gross reached $ 600.7 million Something unimaginable was also happening in the world box office – the film earned $ 1.244 billion.
Despite the fact that the love line of the main characters is mostly the result of the work of a talented screenwriter, yet most of whom we see on the screen had real prototypes on the sunken ship. So, through the efforts of Italian documentary filmmakers, the story of a certain Emilio Portaluppi was made public. He was one of the surviving passengers on the Titanic. Like movie Jack, Emilio won his ticket and fell in love with a married lady from first class on board.
The success of the motion picture
But the actors of “Titanic” were left without awards – Kate Winslet was content with only a nomination in the category “Best Actress”, and Leonardo DiCaprio was left without this consolation prize. However, now we know that “Oscar” bypassed this actor for a long time, but in the end the academics could not resist his charm. And with a total revenue of $ 1.843 billion, the Titanic became almost unattainable for competitors for twelve years.
It was only in 2010 that Cameron’s new project, the three-dimensional Avatar, was able to get ahead of him, but the seventh episode of Star Wars, which was released in 2015, was not lucky. In 2012, on the centenary of the Titanic tragedy, the film was redesigned in 3D and released again, following which he added another $ 342 million to his piggy bank.
On the cinematic field, Titanic also won. The film received fourteen Oscar nominations – dividing that figure with All about Eve (1950) and many years later with the comedy La La Land (2016).

Titanic Soundtrack The song “My Heart Will Go On”, which became the main soundtrack for the film, is one of the most popular and best-selling songs in the world. However, initially the Canadian singer Celine Dion was not enthusiastic about the music of James Horner and did not want to participate in the recording. But the composer was persistent and a month later brought the finished instrumental version to the studio, where Dion was recording the album “Let’s talk about love”. As a result, “My Heart Will Go On” became the singer’s main single and for a long time occupied the top of the charts in America and Europe.
